Leo the cat was dozing bored on the windowsill when he was suddenly woken from his thoughts by cheerful laughter and excited, lively voices

“Leo! Look who’s here!” shouted his parents and opened the living room door to the hallway. Before Leo knew it, three excited children were standing in front of him. They were his parents’ nephews and nieces and apparently they were staying for the whole weekend.

“Hello, Leo!” Lea called out and gently stroked his head. Meanwhile, her little brother Tim was jumping up and down excitedly. He was holding something in his hands that immediately caught Leo’s attention.

It was a small robot with flashing lights that moved around on tiny wheels. “Look, Leo, that’s Robo-Ron!” Tim explained proudly.

While the children laughed and let the robot whizz around the living room, Leo followed the strange creature with curious eyes. He ducked carefully behind the sofa and peeked out inconspicuously.

What was that strange thing? It smelled neither like a mouse, nor like fish, nor like its parents. And yet it was moving! “Meow,” Leo perked up his ears and looked at it skeptically from a distance.

He spent the whole afternoon watching the children play with Robo-Ron. The little robot spun in circles, drove backwards and forwards and beeped amusingly when Tim pressed a button. Leo didn’t know what to make of it.

When the children were called for lunch, they simply left the robot in the middle of the living room.

Shortly afterwards, Leo’s parents decided to get some fresh air: “We’re going on a little trip to the playground now!” they called out to the cat. The children cheered and put on their jackets and shoes. Leo was left alone with the strange creature.

Now it was completely quiet in the house. Except for a quiet humming.

Leo blinked and pricked up his ears. Had something just moved? Very slowly, he crept up to the little robot.

He gently nudged him with his paw. Nothing happened. Now he sniffed him curiously. He still smelled of nothing.

But suddenly – “BEEP, BEEP!” – a bright voice sounded from the Robo-Ron. Leo jumped backwards in shock.

He arched his back and his fur stood up, making him look much taller than he actually was. But the little robot wasn’t impressed at all, he just stood there and looked at Leo with his square eyes.

Leo tilted his head. He wasn’t going to be chased away that easily! He ventured closer again and carefully stretched out a paw. This time he pressed lightly on a colorful button on the robot’s belly and quickly withdrew his paw.

“Hello, friend!” Robo-Ron said in a mechanical voice. Leo flinched. “Friend?” he thought, confused. He looked closely at the little robot. Maybe he wasn’t so scary after all?

Leo bravely jumped back to Robo-Ron and nudged him with his nose. The robot rolled back a little and began to glow in changing colors.

Leo lifted a paw and tried to tap him on the belly again. But Robo-Ron was unimpressed and simply rolled on. That was a whole new game!

And so Leo chased the little robot across the living room. Sometimes he jumped over him, sometimes he crept up behind him.

But suddenly Robo-Ron just stopped and a terribly loud noise sounded from inside him. “You’re a great friend!” the cat grumbled. “As soon as it started to be fun, you stopped joining in!”

“BEEP, BEEP, BEEP!” sounded loudly through the living room again. Leo pinned his ears back and pulled his paws back in fright.

What had he done? Had he broken Robo-Ron? Restlessly, he circled the little robot, but the beeping just wouldn’t stop.

Leo tried again with a gentle paw nudge. Then with a stronger blow. But nothing changed.

He lay down on the floor in despair. “Hopefully it will stop by itself…” he thought. But no – the beeping just continued.

“Meeeeeooow!” complained Leo. “This is unbearable!” He was about to push the robot down the stairs to the cellar. Then he would surely keep still.

But then he had a better idea. First, he threw a pillow at Robo-Ron. “You’ll probably never be heard again,” thought Leo.

But his plan didn’t work. The shrill beeping even penetrated the thick down pillow of his parents, making an incessant and deafening noise.

Desperately, he pressed all the buttons on the robot one after the other with his claws and searched for the colorful button he had pressed at the very beginning. “There it is!” he realized with relief and pressed it as hard as he could.

Silence. Robo-Ron blinked again briefly, rolled his eyes and suddenly stood there as quiet as a mouse. Just as if nothing had happened.

Leo exhaled deeply. Completely out of breath, but relieved, he lay down right next to it and licked his fur to calm himself down.

When the door opened and the family returned home, they saw their cat dozing peacefully on the carpet and the little robot standing next to him, motionless and peaceful.

“Look at that!” exclaimed Tim enthusiastically. “I’m sure Leo would like to play with my Robo-Ron too and he probably doesn’t know how to switch it on.”

Tim raced towards Robo-Ron and pressed the colorful button. “Leo, look here. I’ll show you how you can play with him.

Leo only managed a pitiful “meow”, looked at his parents and left the room very quickly on quiet paws.
